Arthur’s Day 2010

Time to start thinking about Arthur’s Day, Sept 23 2010.

Guinness sent us the following Press Release:

Celebration to include live music events in Ireland, the USA,

the Carribean and Malaysia

Dublin, Ireland 28 July, 2010 – The owners of GUINNESS® beer, the world’s number one stout, announce today an additional line-up of artists joining the Arthur’s Day™ celebrations on 23rd September 2010. Joining Snow Patrol, Sharon Shannon and Paolo Nutini will be some of the hottest musicians of the moment including The Killers’ Brandon Flowers, Kelis, Plan B, KT Tunstall and Newton Faulkner.

Arthur’s Day was created in 2009 to mark the iconic brand’s 250th anniversary of the signing of the lease on St. James’s Gate by the iconic beer’s famous philanthropist founder, Arthur Guinness. The 2009 celebrations saw consumers across every continent enjoy over 60 live music acts whilst raising millions of pints of GUINNESS in a “celebration with substance”. This year’s event will continue to support the Arthur Guinness Fund, building on the good work that has already started in supporting social entrepreneurship around the world.

In addition, GUINNESS is announcing that for Arthur’s Day 2010 there will be live music events in Ireland, the USA, the Caribbean and Asia. In Ireland over 60 artists will perform across the country with the celebrations beginning at 17:59 local time with a global toast to Arthur Guinness and his remarkable legacy.Consumers will be able to enjoy the celebration at over 30 venues across Dublin, Cork and Galway from intimate gigs in pubs to music venues and a concert at the St. James’s Gate brewery itself.

In the United States Arthur’s Day celebrations will kick off with a “To Arthur” group toast with approximately 10,000 consumers at GUINNESS Oysterfest in Chicago. Celebrations will also take place across the country where consumers will come together to raise a GUINNESS “To Arthur.”

Asia and Malaysia will again be celebrating Arthur’s Day with a large concert in Kuala Lumpur. Fans can expect an electrifying night of live music performances to take centre stage during this year’s Arthur’s Day in Kuala Lumpur – all in a massive tribute to Arthur Guinness and his extraordinary legacy.

In the Caribbean, consumers will have the chance to attend Arthur’s Day concerts across the region. Consumers will have the opportunity to win tickets to these concerts as well as join together to raise a GUINNESS and toast “To Arthur” across the region.

KT Tunstall, said: “Looking forward to being a part of this years’ Arthur Guinness celebrations, and will very willingly raise a glass of the black stuff to the man himself.”

Brian Duffy, Global Brand Director for Guinness, said: “Arthur’s Day is once again going to be a global ‘celebration with substance’ that will see performances from some fantastic acts and musicians across the globe. These world renowned performers will transform venues of all sizes into truly global celebrations where consumers will unite and raise a GUINNESS “To Arthur” and to the next 250 years.”

Is it me or is it a coincidence that this is half a year from St Pattys? I believe this is clever marketing because the 9,000 year lease that Arthur signed is dated dec 31st.
I’ve seen bars do a failed “half way to St Pattys Day” so this might be another attempt.

Like you need an excuse to drink a Guinness!
